Mortal Kombat 1: leak would confirm one of the most anticipated characters by fans
Since the 2011 reboot, Mortal Kombat has adopted the habit of featuring characters from third-party franchises in its roster of fighters. The latest installment is no exception, and fans are wondering which guest fighters will be joining the fray in the next batch of additional content. Along those lines, a leak excited the community.
Mortal Kombat 1 has already launched the launch of its DLC. The first Kombat Pack is made up of 6 main fighters: Omni-Man, Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, Homelander and Takahashi Takeda. With the release of the latter just around the corner, fans of the franchise are wondering what's next.
In an interview with LEVEL UP, Ed Boon, co-creator of the franchise and creative director of NetherRealm Studios, confirmed that plans to provide support and content for the fighting title remain in place. Although he did not reveal what is on the way, he assured that they will launch new characters, Kameo Fighters and other surprises.
Now, a recent leak seems to confirm the addition of one of the most anticipated characters by film fans.
Ghostface from Scream could come to Mortal Kombat 1
Last Tuesday, June 4, Season 6 of Mortal Kombat 1 was released. The update marked the debut of Homelander from The Boys as a guest character, as well as new skins and challenges for Invasion mode. Other extras were also released.
Along those lines, the patch introduced a Mileena voiceover pack. This way, players who purchase the item can hear Sindel's daughter say the name of the fighters on the character selection screen, as well as "Fatality", "Brutality" and other iconic phrases.
After the release of the update, the dataminer known as Interloko dug into the game files and found some very interesting information. The thing is, he pulled out some lines of dialogue that directly reference Ghostface, the main antagonist of the Scream film series.
In the video below these lines (starting at minute 5:18), Mileena is heard naming Ghostface twice. This seems to indicate that the fearsome masked assassin could join the Mortal Kombat 1 roster.
Data mining is a relatively effective method for learning about new content that could come to games, but it is far from infallible. At the end of the day, there is always the possibility that there will be changes during development, that planned DLC will be cancelled, or that the files will simply reference something else. That said, it is not the first clue that suggests that the Scream villain will be part of the roster of the Warner Bros. Games title.
Last year, data mining uncovered files referencing Ghostface and more DLC fighters. On the other hand, Ed Boon published an image that shows some of the most iconic horror movie villains in popular culture. The interesting thing is that he marked with a checkmark those who appeared in a Mortal Kombat game as a guest fighter, and put a question mark for those who did not yet. And yes, Ghostface appears.
Now, it is worth remembering that this information is not confirmed. We recommend waiting for NetherRealm Studios to share their plans for the future of the fighting video game.
