MLB 2025

The 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) season commenced today, March 27, 2025, marking the beginning of a full schedule of 162 games for each of the 30 teams. The season will run through September 28, followed by the postseason.

Opening Day Highlights:

Today's Opening Day features a full slate of games. Here are some of the matchups:

Season Predictions:

Experts have weighed in with their forecasts for the season. The Los Angeles Dodgers are widely regarded as favorites to dominate the National League (NL) West division and potentially repeat as World Series champions. In the American League (AL), the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are anticipated to lead the AL East, while the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners are expected to be strong contenders in the AL West.

Notable Player Achievements to Watch:

Spencer Strider (Atlanta Braves): Needs five strikeouts to reach 500 in the fewest innings pitched.

Tyler Glasnow (Tampa Bay Rays): Aims for 1,000 career strikeouts in a record number of innings.

Pete Alonso (New York Mets): Is 27 home runs away from becoming the franchise's all-time leader.

Aaron Judge (New York Yankees): Aspires to reach 350 career home runs rapidly.

Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels): Approaching membership in the 400 home runs and 200 stolen bases club.

Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander: Both are nearing 3,500 career strikeouts.

Shohei Ohtani: Could achieve 250 home runs, paralleling Babe Ruth's legendary status.

Rule Changes:

MLB has introduced several rule modifications for the 2025 season:

Infield Shift Violation: If a team violates the infield shift ban, the batter will be awarded first base, and runners can advance one base. Previously, the penalty was an automatic ball.

Replay Review Expansion: Replay reviews can now determine if a player overran second or third base and call them out for abandonment, even if not the original subject of the review.

Team Relocations and Venue Changes:

Athletics: The team has relocated from Oakland to West Sacramento, California, for at least three seasons before their planned move to the Las Vegas area. During this period, they will be known simply as the "Athletics," without a city designation.

Tampa Bay Rays: Due to roof damage at Tropicana Field caused by Hurricane Milton, the Rays will play their home games at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, the New York Yankees' spring training facility.

Ballpark Renamings:

Chicago White Sox: Their home stadium has been renamed from Guaranteed Rate Field to Rate Field as part of a corporate rebranding.

Houston Astros: Minute Maid Park is now called Daikin Park after the Japanese air conditioning manufacturer acquired the naming rights.

As the season unfolds, fans can look forward to intense competition, potential record-breaking performances, and the excitement that baseball consistently delivers.
